Just to let you know, dear Stella, you are having a very hard time with your first teeth. I hope all 20 aren’t this bad. You have all the classic non-symptom symptoms: fever, drool, crankiness, disrupted sleep, and oh yes, loose stools. Please pop those teeth. Not only are we all suffering from lack of sleep, I am now suffering from an overload of laundry. And that says a whole lot from a mom with two babies. Stella, please push those front teeth in. We could all use a touch more sleep. Thank you, ~mom Stella wants to move. And although the baby book assures me she won’t really crawl until she sits first, I might have to disagree. Tonight she began her “commando crawling”. She has been so strong lifting up on her hands for about a month now, that it’s not surprising she’s begun to push herself around that way. She was turning herself from side to side to get to the direction she wanted to face and then pushing off from there. She was reaching for toys and playing with the ends of the thick wool blanket I put down for the girls to play on. And she was so very happy with the entire process, let me tell you. That baby can smile. And laugh till your heart melts. Before this Stella was just rolling wherever she wanted to be. And with her helmet* on, I could always tell she was on the move by the distinct “thump” “thump” she made as she rolled over. Now all the girls have to do is switch skills and they’ll both be set. *Stella’s helmet is a whole story unto its self. Last week was madness and somewhere in that madness Stella managed to turn six months old. She had her regular Dr. appointment, along with Elise, on Thursday evening. Her current stats: Height– 25 3/4″ Weight–16#6oz Head Circumference–17 3/8″ She’s right in the 50th percentile for height and weight…and 75th for head. More about that later. All in all, Dr. Don was very pleased with how the girls are doing. We’ve bumped them to two solid food meals a day and they are loving it. Stella hasn’t rejected a single taste I’ve given her. She’s loved peas, pears, mixed fruit, spinach and potatoes and all the squash you can shake a stick at. If you put the spoon in her line of sight, she opens right up and gobbles yummies down. I’m thinking of giving both Stella and Elise teething biscuits next so that they can begin to practice feeding themselves. They’re going to have to learn how to do it soon enough. In other news, Stella figured out how to roll from her back to her stomach today. She’s been *almost* there for about a week, but she got her leg kicked over today and flop! There she was. She wasn’t too happy about it though. As soon as she rolled over one way she would roll back the other, complaining the entire time. I think she’s just bored of the floor. So more “frog sitting” for her. Soon enough she’s going to figure out that her body works for moving as well as for grumping…then watch out! I’ll never rest easy again. As if I do now. Stella likes apples. Stella also likes sweet potato puree. Evidenced this morning as she polished off her cereal (with apples) and then most of a jar of sweet potatoes. Mama gotta get her food processor soon to keep up with these hungry girls. Stella is getting big, until I see other babies that is. Then I know that although she is bigger than her twin, she is still a little girl. Her hair, at almost six months, is turning from the very red it was at birth to a bright blond. I hold out hope that theĀ will be touched by strawberry…but after meeting a much truer redheaded baby at the park I don’t think her birth hair is going to last. Alas. I always did want a red head. She is becoming my physical baby. She lifts herself up onto her arms and is trying to figure out how to move her legs as well. She can flip from her tummy to her back and it won’t be long until she can rock that body to the side to reach for toys just out of arms length. She is also developing a high pitched whine when she just wants something or is bored. It’s driving me crazy! The whining is something I hope we can get her to grow out of once she has better ways of communicating…we’ll start with the signs soon. But when she’s happy she’s all crooked smiles and her laugh melts me every time. When she’s happy all her vocalizations come out and it is the dearest sound in the world. Nothing like a bubbly baby laugh to cure what ails a day. What else…she is getting the hang of eating solids. I started them out about a week ago. Stella, being the bottle champ that she is, had a hard time figuring out how not to suck down food and wasn’t keen on the whole solid experience. Now she still spits a lot of food out, but likes the spoon in her mouth and will open up for more. Yay baby! I remember this a rough period in babyhood…and it’s proving to be taxing on all of us. I can’t wait until she gets the hang of sitting on her own, and even moving more independently. I think she gets bored these days…she wants ot be a big girl but can’t get her body to comply. She’ll get the hang of it soon…then it’s watch out world for Stella. |
